Some people are definitely more prone to the ‘Panda eye’ syndrome than others. This can be brought on by a shortage of sleep, poor circulation or poor elimination, all of which cause the blood to acquire a bluish tinge and encourage pigments and waste to settle in the delicate tissue around the eye. Shadows are more apparent when the skin is thin or fair, as the underlying blood vessels are more visible. However, in darker skins, where the tendency to pigment is greater, irritating waste deposits which “traumatize” the skin around the eyes are more inclined to trigger the release of protective melanin granules, potentially causing deeper discoloration.
Unless it is properly addressed, the problem can become deep-seated. Once it reaches this stage, even intensive therapy cannot eradicate the circles, although they may become two or three shades lighter as the stagnation is dispersed and the supporting tissue becomes healthier. Dark circles may also occur as result of the kidney problems, food intolerance or various nutritional deficiencies, including iron, vitamin C and vitamin B.
